One area of competitive advantage forward-looking companies will gain over others will be in how holistically they respond to the abrupt changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic to the world of work. Changing the definition of what the workplace is and how the business of “working” is conducted. From understanding going to work to mean that commute to the office, to a stroll down the passage to a home office if you’re lucky or setting up on the kitchen or dining table at home. From attending business meetings around a board-room table sitting across and exchanging brilliant ideas with colleagues to speaking through a screen and presenting on a shared screen via a virtual platform.

Companies that have an appreciation that these changes cannot be viewed in isolation to the entire business but bring about a fundamental shift to the organisational culture and how business is done in terms of processes, systems, technology, performance reviews and other aspects, will have an edge over their peers. What this then suggests is that leaders of companies who do not recognise the urgent need for a change management process out of the pandemic, do so at their peril. Once you ignore change management, you run the risk having your company go through a rocky and costly transition in terms of time and resources.
